First week in Germany

I arrived in Offenburg Thursday night. I was greeted with a big hug from my mentor, which was quite nice and unexpected. Germans have the reputation of being cold, so I suppose I was expecting a re-enforcement of that stereotype. My mentor brought me to my new home, and I was once again greeted with a big hug from my Landlady. The living arrangement is actually quite wonderful, mainly because my landlady is so nice. The first night she fed me and made sure I had everything I needed, and today two of her daughters, who are about my age, showed me around town and helped me go shopping for groceries and whatnot.

Shopping is always an interesting experience for me. I'm so used to having my things bagged for me that it's difficult to get re-adjusted to the rush style of getting everything out of the way for the next customer and bagging it yourself. I also have to pay attention as to where I can use my credit cards.

School starts here on Monday, so I'm very excited to meet all the students. I had the chance to meet my fellow teachers already, and they are quite happy to have a native English speaker at their disposal. Now that I'm about to start my schedule and I'm mostly settled in, I'm feeling much less stressed about the situation. I'm really looking forward to an amazing year.
