Week #9 in Germany

This week was my fall vacation. Unfortunately, I didn't get to go anywhere or do anything super-exciting. Even though I finally got my pay, it's still not enough to really travel, taking into account all my bills. Also, I spent most of the time playing nurse for Mehmet. He fractured his foot playing soccer, so I've been taking care of him, hoping he'll have a speedy recovery. Even though I didn't get to travel, sometimes it's nice to just relax and smell the roses....which I can do since Mehmet bought me some :).

This week I've discovered something that Huey Lewis and Celine Dion and many others have sang about: The Power of Love. My German is constantly improving, but I still get very nervous about speaking German, especially on the phone. However, when Mehmet hurt himself, I didn't hesitate at all in speaking German. I called for a doctor's appointment for him and went with him to the hospital to help translate if he needed it. The typical nervousness I experience was completely lost. I was too busy focusing on making sure the man I love was being cared for.

People often realize their abilities during times of need. My German was needed, and so I was able to use it completely. Now that I know the extent of my ability, hopefully I'll continue to be confident while speaking in the future. If not, at least I now know how to gain my confidence ;).
