Time is really a strange thing. I've now been in Germany for over five months, and I'll be leaving Germany five months from now. I vividly remember my feelings of nausea during my car ride to the Northwest Arkansas airport in September like it was yesterday. At the same time, it seems as if I've been gone more like five years than five months.
These past few weeks, I've been able to gain more experience, which has been nice. I've made lesson plans for actual classes, as opposed to conversation groups. I taught a 5th grade and two 10th grade classes. This coming week will start a new semester, but I'll still be able to stay with most of the same classes, which will be nice.
I've also gained more experience outside of the classroom. Yesterday, I went on a hike with my friend through the Black Forest. Even though it's about a mile from my home, it's the first time I've been in the forest since my arrival in Germany. We hiked a total of 7.5 miles and went to the top of a tower. Unfortunately, it was cloudy and foggy, so we weren't able to see the city from the tower at all. Once we got home, there was a Fastnacht celebration in front of our home. I was attacked by one witch, who beat me with her broom, and another witch, who gave me candy. It was really quite perfectly German: the Black Forest, witches and sweets.
