Kids these days....

Either I'm becoming more conservative with age, or kids are becoming more risqué, but I swear, if I wore something like that, my grandma would put a sign on me that said two-cent hooker. That's probably a bit harsh, but after seeing some of the clothes school kids wear, I definitely appreciate the idea of a uniform, or at the very least a dress code.

These kids spend so much money on trying to be trendy, sexy, cool, when in fact they are just investing in the loss of self respect. Today I saw a 15-year old with a shirt that said "Fuck Google, ask me". Really? You're 15-years old, you haven't even finished puberty yet. And although the swear word was in English, my colleagues are intelligent enough to realize it's incredibly offensive. But this student was able to spend the whole day at school. He didn't have to put his shirt inside out, he didn't have to change, he didn't have to go home.

Which leads to another rant: It's not just the kids. There are fellow teachers who look like they share their wardrobe with some of the students. No, you don't have to wear a suit and tie to school everyday, but at least have the decency to tuck in your shirt. And knowing the income of a mere assistant, I know for a fact that as a full teacher you can afford to buy clothes that are within your own age group and show at least some amount of professionalism.

After all, teaching is a profession. Although some people don't give much credit to it's merit, there are reason's to appreciate what teachers do. It's a profession concerned with building our future, and showing children that impossible is nothing. It's about inspiring the future lawyers, doctors, actors and musicians to be the best they can be. It's about setting an example. If we don't, who will?
